The salaries of the heads of municipal and local councils have been revealed by the Minister of Municipal Affairs.
Waleed Al Masri said that a new salary hierarchy was founded following the recent decentralisation and municipal elections, but it only amended the salaries of the local council heads.
The old salaries for municipality heads falling under Category 1 were:
Head of the Municipal Council: 900 JD
Head of the Local Council: 600 JD
Category 2:
Head of the Municipal Council: 800 JD
Head of the Local Council: 500 JD
Category 3:
Head of the Municipal Council: 700 JD
Head of the Local Council: 400 JD
Under the new salary system, the heads of municipal councils’ salaries remained the same, while the heads of local councils’ salaries were decreased depending on the category they fall under:
Category 1: 250 JD
Category 2: 200 JD
Category 3: 150 JD
The amended system also offers financial rewards for the heads who succeed at collecting dues owed to their municipality.
Each reward’s value is linked to the amount of money collected by each head:
Less than 100,000 JD: 150 JD reward
Between 101,000 - 299,000 JD: 200 JD reward
Between 300,000 - 499,000 JD: 225 JD reward
Between 500,000 - 699,000 JD: 250 JD reward
Between 700,000 - 999,000 JD: 300 JD reward
Between 1.5 million - 2 million JD: 350 JD reward
There is more money on the table.
For each session attended, council members will receive 25 JD - there are four sessions a month, while council heads will receive 15 JD for each session they attend, bearing in mind that they will only get paid for attending six sessions, even if the number of sessions they have attended that month exceeds that number.
