Dubai Police confirmed Sunday the death of businessman Sindika Dokolo, husband of Isabel dos Santos, daughter of the former Angolan president, in an accident while diving, stressing that there was no criminal suspicion.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the police said that on October 29 they received a report stating that a person had drowned while diving near Umm al-Hatab Island, north of Deira Island, off the coast of the Gulf state.

She stated that she had opened an investigation into the circumstances of the death and heard the statements of "friends of the deceased and reviewed the results of the forensic report, all of which concluded that there was no criminal suspicion of the death."

His family announced his death last Thursday, but did not provide any other details.

Docolo, a wealthy DRC businessman, is involved with his wife in an anti-corruption investigation that began after her father, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, left the position of Angola's president in 2017.

Dokulo is the son of Augustin Dokolo Sanou, a Congolese banker who previously wielded great influence under dictator Mobutu Sese Seko.

Upon his death, Dokolo and Dos Santos were under investigation by the Angolan authorities, who froze their bank accounts and business assets.
