The Head of the Coronavirus Portfolio, Wael Al-Hayajneh, told Roya Monday that Jordan seems to have reached the stage of stability on the COVID-19 curve. However, the continuity of preventative measures is required, given that the stability or decrease of the curve is not an indication of the end of the pandemic.

The number of coronavirus deaths recorded on Sunday were the lowest in about a month, with the number of new cases being significantly lower according to data issued by the Ministry of Health.

The first COVID-19 death was recorded Mar. 28 and the highest daily death toll was recorded Nov. 10 with 91 deaths.

Concerned official authorities previously thought that the peak of the pandemic will be witnessed in Jordan between mid-November and mid-December, while some of them suggested that the peak might extend to January 2021.

He attributed the stability of the curve to citizens' improved commitment to safety measures by wearing face masks, social distancing and lack of gatherings, stressing that continuity of these measures is required, given that the stability or decrease of the curve is not an indication of the end of the pandemic.

Regardless of the decline in numbers, Hayajneh explained that it is too early to talk about imposing previous isolation measures imposed by the ministry wherein buildings and neighborhoods were singularly placed on lockdown.

The current stage of the pandemic differs from the previous ones, he said.
