The Council of Ministers announced Wenesday that April 11 will be an official holiday in Jordan, in celebration of the country's centenary. During a Cabinet session, Prime Minister Bisher al-Khasawneh decided to suspend operations across all ministries, official departments, institutions and public bodies April 11, which falls on a Sunday, therefore allowing for a long weekend.

The government said this official holiday marks the centenary while April 16 is a national day for the Jordanian flag, noting that the mass celebrations marking the centenary were carried over until after May due to the circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic.

The government previously announced the extension of COVID-19 restrictions including the Friday lockdown and curfew until May 15.
