A member of the anti-smuggling patrol was injured on the Desert Highway while chasing a truck without license plates Sunday morning. The local security services were immediately notified and the person injured was transported to the Karak Governmental Hospital.

In a statement, the media spokesperson said that a member of the anti-smuggling patrols in Al-Sultani area asked the driver of a tipper truck to pull over for extra inspection, because the vehicle did not have any license plates.

The driver refused to cooperate, then turned back south driving in the opposite direction, which led to the reported car chase. During the chase, three other vehicles, that were there to protect the truck being chased, opened fire at the officer’s vehicle, which led to his injury.

Investigations are underway by the relevant authorities.
