As part of the efforts to achieve the political modernization project in Jordan, the Media Commission has established a standing committee for media freedoms and human rights, with the aim is to provide “qualitative tasks” in the field of media freedoms and human rights and enhance them, in line with political modernization.

Bashir Al-Momani, the Director-General of the Media Commission, stated that the Minister of Government Communication, Muhannad Mubaidin, approved the instructions for forming a standing committee for media freedoms and human rights.

He added that the committee will provide recommendations and proposals to develop human rights in the field of media, in accordance with the provisions of the constitution, legislation, international standards, and best practices.

It will collaborate with partners in the media and human rights field to promote media freedoms and human rights, creating a qualitative environment that enables the media and journalists to enhance their noble mission.

Al-Momani stated that the instructions, in addition to being precedent-setting with progressive concepts, explicitly stipulate the establishment of a charter for media freedoms and human rights. The instructions emphasize working with licensed media outlets to achieve relevant standards, enhancing media capabilities, and empowerment processes.
