The Director of Education in Shobak, Mohammed Salama Al-Shqeirat, announced the suspension of classes for Thursday, February 1, 2024 - to ensure the safety of students and teaching staff due to the unstable weather conditions.

The areas between the Shobak and Petra districts, particularly the higher altitude areas of Al-Hesha and Al-Hay, witnessed snow showers since the early morning hours Thursday.

The thick fog covered these areas, leading to reduced horizontal visibility, especially in the region of Ras Al-Naqab.

The Public Security Directorate (PSD) warned of potential sliding incidents due to the accumulation of snow on some roads. It noted that the roads are traversable but require caution.

Forecasts indicate snow showers over high mountainous areas for limited periods, possibly including parts of the eastern and southeastern regions, occasionally mixed with rain. The likelihood of light snow accumulation on the tops of the high southern mountains is low, with a decrease in precipitation intensity in the evening. The winds will be moderately brisk and northwest, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department.
