The Drug Enforcement Administration, in collaboration with the Mass Media and Community Policing Directorate, announced on Sunday the launch of an awareness campaign against the lethal drug crystal methamphetamine.

The campaign aims to raise community awareness about its dangers, encourage involvement in combating it, prevent youth from using it, and report any associated activities.

This initiative comes as a response to the increasing number of users and its prevalence among youth who are unaware of its dangerous and destructive effects on life. It also aims to counter the false claims made by drug traffickers, who deceive individuals into trying it by falsely portraying it as a stimulant, enhancer, and sexual booster.

Crystal methamphetamine, also known as meth, ice, or devil's drug, is a highly toxic and dangerous chemical substance that can lead to addiction from the first dose. Users often increase their intake to satisfy their cravings, leading to the rapid onset of dangerous symptoms that can result in death or self-harm.

The administration emphasized the severe health damage caused by this substance, including damage to the nervous system, mental disorders, hallucinations, severe insomnia, increased body temperature, elevated blood pressure, heart palpitations, malnutrition, depression, tooth decay, lung infections, and aggressive behavior.

Furthermore, it highlighted the threat posed by this substance to both users and those around them, as it can lead to self-harm, harm to others, or engagement in criminal activities without awareness of the consequences. Users may experience aggressive behavior, lose their sense of time and place, and perceive hallucinations as reality.

The Drug Enforcement Administration urged national media outlets and community members to contribute to raising awareness about this substance, report any information about its dealers and promoters, and recognize the danger it poses to society and individuals.

Parents were also urged to remain vigilant of their children and individuals they interact with. Any changes in behavior or the emergence of psychological, aggressive, or health symptoms should prompt suspicion of methamphetamine use, and prompt treatment should be sought to prevent harm to themselves or others.
