The United States exercised its veto power to prevent the adoption of a resolution holding the Israeli Occupation army accountable for targeting Palestinians in the massacre committed on Al-Rasheed Street in Gaza City.

The United Nations Security Council failed to issue a presidential statement expressing "deep concern" over the massacre committed by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) against civilians waiting for aid trucks, resulting in the death and injury of hundreds.

The Council held a closed session, at the request of Algeria, regarding the recent developments in Gaza following the Al-Rasheed Street massacre.

Algeria presented a draft presidential statement in which the 15 Security Council members expressed their "deep concern" about the massacre, holding the IOF responsible for firing at thousands of unarmed civilians waiting for aid trucks.

Although 14 members supported the text, the United States vetoed it, using its veto power, resulting in the statement not being adopted.

In response, Palestine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Riyad Mansour, called for an immediate ceasefire resolution.

Mansour stated after the session that "this heinous massacre is evidence that as long as the Security Council is paralyzed and veto is imposed, Palestinians pay with their lives."

Last week, the United States used its veto power for the third time to obstruct a draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
