King Abdullah, Iraqi President discuss Gaza in Amman talks

Monday, His Majesty King Abdullah II engaged in discussions with Iraqi President Dr. Abdul Latif Rashid at Basman Palace, accompanied by His Highness Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Crown Prince.

During their bilateral discussions, the two leaders delved into current developments, with His Majesty expressing concern that ongoing events in the region may lead to further escalation, posing a threat to security and stability.

Both leaders emphasized the urgency of redoubling efforts to achieve an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip and working towards a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue, ensuring the Palestinian people their rightful rights and ending the cycle of violence in the area.

His Majesty stressed the importance of safeguarding civilians in Gaza and increasing the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip through all available means.

Furthermore, they denounced the violent acts perpetrated by extremist settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank and the violations against sacred sites in Jerusalem.

His Majesty underscored Iraq's pivotal role in the region, affirming Jordan's commitment to supporting its security and stability, emphasizing, "Jordan's security is intertwined with Iraq's."

The discussions also centered on the robust relations between the two nations and peoples, exploring avenues to enhance cooperation across various sectors, notably energy, industry, trade, and the environment, aiming to bolster economic partnership and integration across developmental spheres.

His Majesty emphasized the importance of expediting the implementation of agreements and joint projects between Jordan and Iraq, commending the commencement of the initial phase of the electrical interconnection project between the two nations.

President Rashid highlighted the depth of relations between the two brotherly countries, emphasizing the need to strengthen cooperation and coordination in political, security, trade, economic, energy, environmental, and tourism domains.

He stressed that Iraq's security and stability are integral to the region's overall security, lauding Jordan's supportive stance towards Iraq in confronting the challenges it faces, particularly in its fight against terrorism.

President Rashid also advocated for continued trilateral meetings between Iraq, Jordan, and Egypt, aiming to advance the outcomes of previous tripartite summits.

The discussions were attended by Prime Minister Dr. Bisher Al-Khasawneh, Director of His Majesty’s Office Dr. Jaafar Hassan, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Youssef Al-Shamali, the head of the honorary delegation accompanying the guest, and the delegation accompanying the Iraqi President.
