US President Joe Biden and “Israeli” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke on the phone for 30 minutes today, in a call that covered the recent ceasefire negotiations which had little breakthrough so far, in addition to the forthcoming “Israeli” invasion of the city of Rafah which houses almost 1.5 million displaced Gazans.

Biden asked Netanyahu to immediately reopen the Kerem Shalom Border Crossing, which lies southeast of Rafah, and previously shuttered by “Israel” last Sunday – according to a US official cited by Axios.

The US President also restated his “clear position'” on the topic of Rafah to Netanyahu – said the White House just now.

Netanyahu "agreed to ensure the Kerem Shalom crossing is open for humanitarian assistance for those in need," it added in a readout of their call.

The crossing is considered the main entry point of humanitarian aid trucks coming into the Gaza Strip.

Thousands of Palestinians in the city of Rafah in south Gaza are currently leaving their homes amid intensified “Israeli” bombing on the eastern part of the city ahead of a looming full-scale “Israeli” offensive.

"The numbers of citizens moving from the eastern areas of Rafah towards the west are large, especially after the intensification of the bombing, there are thousands of citizens leaving their homes", said Red Crescent spokesman Osama al-Kahlout to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
