A member of the National Committee for Epidemics Bassam Hijjawi told Roya Wednesday has confirmed that Jordan is free of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Hijjawi stated that AstraZeneca vaccine hasn't been in Jordan since 2021 and has not been used since then.

British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca announced on Wednesday the withdrawal of its vaccine, Vaxzevria, one of the first vaccines produced during the pandemic, citing commercial reasons.

Hijjawi noted that Jordan had decided to withdraw the AstraZeneca vaccine after its initial use in 2021 and will not be importing it anymore.

AstraZeneca's lawyers admitted in 51 lawsuits that the vaccine caused side effects affecting some families severely, as reported by The Telegraph.

Health experts first noticed a connection between the vaccine and a new condition AstraZeneca admitted in court documents in February that the vaccine can cause Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS), linked to at least 81 deaths in the UK and numerous injuries.

Despite this, the clinical trial data and real-world evidence consistently show that the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine has an acceptable safety record.

Specialists continuously affirm that "the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks of extremely rare side effects."
