The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed today the United Nations General Assembly adoption of a resolution supporting the application for membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations, granting it additional privileges, a necessary step towards full membership in the United Nations – the statement said.

The ministry's spokesperson, Ambassador Dr. Sufian Al-Qudah, affirmed that the adoption of the resolution by a majority of 143 votes reflects international consensus on the right of the State of Palestine to full membership in the United Nations, and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, embodying their independent and sovereign state along the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem.
Ambassador Al-Qudah emphasized the content of the United Nations General Assembly's recommendation regarding the Security Council's imperative to reconsider Palestine's membership application in the United Nations without delay, urging the international community to exert renewed and coordinated efforts to end the Israeli occupation and achieve a just, permanent, and peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue in accordance with international law, United Nations resolutions, relevant international references, and the Arab Peace Initiative.
