Wednesday, the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) announced that citizens aged 65 and over will be given a free card to be used in the process of traveling by the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).

"Our elders are our blessings," the GAM said on Twitter.

After a decade, the BRT in Jordan began its first phase of operation Tuesday, July 27.

The phase started loading passengers through a route that begins from the Sweileh passenger station towards Queen Rania Street, passing through the Sports City roundabout, and then heading to the Fifth Circle and arriving at Ras Al-Ain Station.

The media spokesman for the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), Nasser Al-Rahamneh, revealed in previous statements to Roya that the BRT will operate in the first phase after infrastructure works have been completed, and will work to transport passengers during that stage.

Rahamneh further clarified details of the first route, which will witness trial operations wherein passengers will be transported from the Sweileh passenger station to the external patrols signal, Queen Rania Al Abdullah Street, Sports City Roundabout, Wadi Saqra, Sharif Nasser bin Jameel Street, Fifth Circle, Wadi Abdoun, all the way to Museum station in Ras al-Ain.

Rahamneh indicated that work in the other phases is in full swing, in order to fully operate the BRT fully on schedule.
