Patients at the King Abdullah University Hospital have expressed their concerns about the shortage of medicines and treatments, particularly for cancer patients. Despite having medical exemptions, they are compelled to purchase medicines out of their own pockets from external sources, as the required medications are unavailable in the hospital pharmacy.
Some patients told Roya that certain medicines and cancer treatments are not stocked at the hospital, and the cost of purchasing these medications can reach up to JD 500. They are urging the Ministry of Health to ensure a steady supply of essential medicines, especially for critical health conditions where immediate access to medication is vital for their well-being and lives.
The general director of the hospital Muhammad al-Ghazou said the main problem lies in delays from the suppliers, adding that the hospital is making arrangements with the ministry and Royal Medical Services to compensate for the shortage of medicines until the supply from the pharmaceutical companies arrives.
Ghazou further clarified that the hospital administration has fulfilled its financial obligations to the pharmaceutical companies through the Ministry of Finance. It is expected that various types of medicines will be replenished and made available within the next 10 days.
Efforts are being made to address the situation, and the hospital and relevant authorities are working diligently to ensure that patients receive the necessary medical treatments in a timely and efficient manner.
