Five people died in a bus accident on the way to Jerash at the Salhoub Bridge Wednesday morning, according to Jerash Governor Feras Al-Faour.

The spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate (PSD) stated that specialized teams from the Civil Defense and Police directorates dealt with a bus overturn incident on Salhoub road Wednesday morning.

In the latest update, he stated that the traffic investigation committee, formed by the Central Traffic Department, has completed its investigation into the bus accident in the Salhoub area.

The findings show that the accident was caused by a loss of control resulting from skidding.

He added that the case will be referred to the judiciary.

Earlier the spokesperson siad that the bus veered off the main road into a valley near the forest of the martyr Wasfi Al-Tal, specifically in the middle of the Sahoub descent.

The spokesperson added that the accident resulted in the death of five people and injuries to 35 others, including five severe injuries.

The fatalities were evacuated, and first aid was provided to the injured, who were then transported to nearby hospitals for necessary treatment.

The spokesperson explained that field personnel from traffic police, external patrols, and the Balqa Police Directorate arrived at the scene immediately upon receiving the report.

They organized traffic movement, facilitated rescue and ambulance operations, and opened a traffic investigation into the accident to determine its causes.

Security personnel rushed to the accident site, closed the traffic from Jerash to Irbid, and initiated investigations to understand the circumstances.

Dr. Sadeq Al-Otoum, the director of Jerash Hospital, mentioned that 15 injuries from the bus accident arrived at the hospital, and medical staff is handling them.

He noted that most of the individuals injured in the bus accident were university students.

The hospital is currently reassessing the condition of the injured and performing necessary surgeries and interventions for some cases, he said.

On the other hand, the father of one of the injured students in the accident mentioned that his son suffered a spinal column fracture as a result of the tragic incident.

The Jordan Meteorological Department had warned of the risk of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas in the western parts of the kingdom, including the Dead Sea.

There was also a risk of reduced visibility in the morning due to fog and low-lying clouds over mountainous areas and the danger of sliding on roads experiencing rainfall.
