The Public Security Directorate (PSD), in a statement on its official Facebook page, warned Jordanian to take precautions near water bodies, as the recent rise in temperatures prompts citizens and picnickers to frequent them and potentially suffer from drowning incidents due to irresponsible behavior.

The PSD emphasized that drowning incidents are among the seasonal accidents claiming the lives of many individuals, due to some irresponsible behaviors and actions by some individuals while attending gatherings and various water bodies.

It pointed out that the danger lies in the fact that the consequences of these tragic incidents are usually immediate when the life of the drowning person is endangered, leading to death within a few minutes.

Water rescue teams were established through the Civil Defense, present at all water bodies' sites in the kingdom on official holidays when citizens and picnickers frequent them - according to the statement.

These teams will provide guidance and awareness at the sites, as well as appropriate handling of any drowning incident that may occur.

The Directorate urged citizens to follow all preventive guidelines and instructions to reduce drowning incidents, in addition to avoiding swimming randomly in areas not designated for swimming, such as dams, agricultural ponds, flowing water channels, and other similar water bodies.

It also called for the necessity of monitoring children and not allowing them to approach water bodies or swim in them to safeguard their lives, and not to engage in random rescue operations, which often expose more than one person to the risk of drowning accidents.
