His Majesty King Abdullah II met with Italian President Sergio Mattarella in Rome on Thursday, where they discussed regional developments, particularly the worsening situation in Gaza.

During the meeting at the Presidential Palace, King Abdullah emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza to halt the humanitarian crisis and provide relief aid without obstacles. He also warned of the consequences of the Israeli Occupation attack on Rafah.

In the presence of His Highness Prince Ghazi bin Mohammed, His Majesty’s Chief Advisor for Religious and Cultural Affairs and Personal Envoy, King Abdullah reiterated that peace and stability in the region depend on a just solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution. He appreciated Italy's support for this solution.

The two leaders also discussed the strong historical ties between their countries.

President Mattarella affirmed Italy's alignment with Jordan, especially regarding efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and establish a political framework for peace based on the two-state solution. He praised Jordan's aid efforts for Gaza and stressed its crucial role in the region.

The Italian President warned against the consequences of the Rafah attack and the escalation of the regional aggression.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Director of the King's Office Dr. Jaafar Hassan, Jordanian Ambassador to Italy Qais Abu Dayh, and several senior Italian officials.

King Abdullah II left for Italy and the United States on Wednesday for a work visit. This visit is part of Jordan's efforts to achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza and alleviate the humanitarian crisis there.

In his absence, His Highness Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Crown Prince, was sworn in as Regent, taking the constitutional oath in the presence of the Cabinet.
