During his meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome on Thursday, King Abdullah II cautioned about the serious repercussions of the Israeli Occupation attack on Rafah and emphasized the severity of the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza.

In bilateral and expanded meetings, attended by His Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, Chief Advisor to the King for Religious and Cultural Affairs, and His Majesty’s Personal Envoy, the King stressed the urgency of efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region to prevent further conflict, which threatens global peace and security.

King Abdullah emphasized the international community's need to promptly achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, protect civilians, and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip.

He highlighted the vital role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in providing essential services to millions of Palestinians in Gaza and other areas.

The King also raised concerns about extremist settlers' hostile actions against Palestinians in the West Bank and violations at holy sites in Jerusalem. He reiterated Jordan's commitment to safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem under Hashemite custodianship.

King Abdullah reaffirmed the necessity of a political solution for a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, granting Palestinians their legitimate rights. He stressed the importance of European recognition of the Palestinian state.

The meeting discussed bilateral relations, with the King expressing pride in the strong friendship between the two countries and a desire to enhance cooperation.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni praised Jordan's essential role in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, pledging her country's cooperation in providing assistance to Gaza. She called for de-escalating tensions and intensifying efforts for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Director of the King's Office Dr. Jaafar Hassan, Jordanian Ambassador to Italy Qais Abu Dayeh, and several Italian officials.
