During a press conference in Geneva, World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, "at this time we don't recommend mass vaccination against monkeypox."

However, he recommended target vaccination.

The World Health Organization declared the highest alert over monkeypox on Saturday as the outbreak was classified a global health emergency.

This came after the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, was scheduled to announce if the organization should launch the highest level of readiness, to combat the spread of monkeypox.

Notably, the only two other health emergencies in the world at the moment are COVID-19 and the continuing effort to eradicate polio.
