The New Al-Hussein Al-Salt Hospital Sunday successfully conducted its first open heart surgery on a 20-month-old child.
The procedure, led by pediatric heart surgery consultant Brigadier Dr. Zaid Makalha, involved repairing the pulmonary valve and widening the right ventricular outflow of the heart.
Dr. Rami Abu Roman, the hospital's director, stated that a pediatric heart surgery and congenital defects unit was established at the hospital as a result of an agreement signed between the Ministry of Health and the Royal Medical Services.
The unit is equipped with surgical devices and equipment that meet international standards, and hospital staff have been highly trained to deliver efficient services.
Dr. Abu Roman added that the hospital plans to perform one operation per week for pediatric heart surgery and congenital defects, with ongoing efforts to expand and further develop the unit.
The child's family expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the exceptional care provided by the doctors, staff, and hospital management.
