Muhammad Al-Faouri, the Director of the Traffic Department at the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), clarified that the installation of cameras in the capital city is not related to the enforcement of the amended traffic law.

He told Roya that the primary objective behind these cameras is to advance toward smart cities. These cities rely heavily on electronic control systems, which, he noted, significantly contribute to easing traffic congestion and devising effective traffic solutions.

He emphasized that the aim is not solely to monitor and record violations but rather to streamline traffic flow and promptly identify suitable traffic resolutions.

Faouri highlighted that GAM's staff conducts daily upkeep of all facilities, contributing to a safe traffic environment for both drivers and pedestrians.

He pointed out that the GAM has conducted a comprehensive study on opening, maintenance, and traffic enhancements in critical congestion points across the capital.

He explained that implementing the three-stage study may require a few weeks in certain areas, while others might necessitate an entire year.
