Humza Yousaf announced his resignation as Scotland's First Minister today, just days before he was due to face two confidence votes in his leadership and government.
The former head of the Scottish Cabinet also said he would stand down as leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP) but would stay in his post until a successor is found.

Humza Yousaf, on March 29, 2023, became the youngest, first Scottish Asian and Muslim to be appointed as head of the government - he took his parliamentary oath first in English and then in Urdu.
He was also the youngest member of the Scottish Parliament - in 2007 and at 26 years old.
Humza Yousaf received his bachelor’s and then master’s degree in political science from the University of Glasgow. He is married to Nadia El-Nakla, 40, a Scottish woman to a Palestinian father who used to reside in the Gaza Strip before being evacuated through Rafah Border Crossing back to Scotland.
